If youre passionate about a plant genus or family, you may already belong to one of the many societies devoted to the study, cultivation, and exchange of rare and beautiful specimen. If you simply appreciate what youve seen, you may want to join the local chapter which typically has workshops, tours, and other events that may help you in understanding how to control pests and diseases, or how to propagate, or where to go for more information on the history of the plant hunters, horticulturists, and collectors who have helped bring us these beauties.

Each of the plant societies listed on these pages are national or international organizations. The geographic area covered by their local chapters is necessarily quite large when the overall membership is small, so dont hesitate to contact a local chapter that isnt very local. On the other hand local chapters of such popular societies as bonsai, camellias, cactus & succulents, roses, and orchids are found in nearly every community. And remember, although many chapters have computer-savvy members whove put up excellent Web sites, many other chapters can only be contacted by mail or telephone.

If you're looking for software to organize, label, sort, and publish your own collection of plants and pictures, take a look at   The Compleat Botanica.
